Fable
In a spell of dry weather, when the Birds could find very little to drink, a thirsty Crow found a pitcher with a little water in it. But the pitcher was high and had a narrow neck, and no matter how he tried, the Crow could not reach the water. The poor thing felt as if he must die of thirst.
Then an idea came to him. Picking up some small pebbles, he dropped them into the pitcher one by one. With each pebble the water rose a little higher until at last it was near enough so he could drink
Moral
When faced with a problem, think outside the box for a solution. You can become very creative when you experience dire situations. Intelligence can be more beneficial than strength at times, and when you persevere, you will see favorable results.
Activities
Here are some activities your students or children may complete to facilitate positive character traits, comprehension skills, processing skills, improved writing skills, and sharper speaking abilities. Tailor them as needed to fit your student's level.
Using complete sentences, discuss when you faced a challenging problem. What innovative methods did you use to solve it? Were you able to solve the problem on your own? Did you require the assistance of an adult or another individual?
Narrate the fable of the Crow and the Pitcher back to an adult or record yourself re-telling it. Play it back. Did you get the sequence of events correct and recall the story easily? Was your speech fluid, or did you pause often with filler words like "um"?
Create a collage of people solving life's problems using magazines or other media. You may also like to draw a picture of a creatively solved problem.
Read a book about a scientist or inventor who solved a problem in an unusual way.
